What inspired you to pursue filmmaking as a career?

Storytelling has always been at the core of who I am. Growing up, I was deeply inspired by the power of visual narratives to provoke thought, evoke emotion, and inspire change. Filmmaking became my way of exploring untold stories — those often left out of mainstream narratives. I wanted to create a platform for those voices, cultures, and perspectives that were underrepresented, and film felt like the perfect medium to do so.

What is your approach to storytelling, and how do you ensure your vision translates on screen?

My approach to storytelling is rooted in authenticity and emotional connection. I strive to find the human element in every story — those universal truths that resonate regardless of background. Collaboration is key; I work with a team of talented individuals who understand my vision and bring their own expertise to the table. I rely on meticulous planning, from the script to cinematography to post-production, to ensure that every detail aligns with the narrative’s emotional core. Clarity of vision paired with adaptability allows me to bring stories to life in a way that is impactful and true.

How does it feel to receive recognition for your work, including winning a Grammy?

It’s incredibly humbling and deeply gratifying. Recognition is a testament not just to my efforts but to the hard work of every individual who has been part of the journey. Winning a Grammy was a surreal moment because it validated my commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging conventional norms in storytelling. It’s a reminder to keep creating with intention and purpose.

What does winning this Lifetime Achievement award mean for your career and future projects?

This award is both a celebration of what I’ve accomplished and a challenge to continue innovating. It symbolizes a recognition of my past work but also fuels me to think bigger, take more risks, and inspire the next generation of creators. For me, the award isn’t a capstone — it’s a call to action for what’s to come.

How did you come up with the idea for The Momentum Experience (now One Drop Experience)?

The Momentum Experience was born out of a desire to create immersive, transformative art that transcends traditional boundaries. I wanted to merge storytelling with music, technology, and

performance to engage audiences on a sensory and emotional level. It was inspired by a belief that art can be a catalyst for change — an experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

What problem does The One Drop Experience solve, and why is it important to you/the world/the industry?

It addresses the disconnection we often feel in a fast-paced, hyper-digital world. The One Drop Experience (ODX) bridges that gap by fostering collective, shared experiences that are intimate yet universal. For the industry, it redefines entertainment by merging innovation with storytelling, proving that audiences crave more than passive consumption — they want to be active participants in the narrative.

What role does innovation play in your company’s growth?

Innovation is the lifeblood of everything we do. It’s about taking risks, experimenting with new technologies, and continuously challenging the status quo. By staying ahead of trends and embracing new tools, we’ve been able to create experiences that feel fresh and relevant, ensuring our stories resonate with diverse audiences.

You’ve collaborated with Mark Cuban, Will Smith, and Tyler Perry. What role has each of them played in your journey?

  • Mark Cuban brought a business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit that encouraged me to think beyond the art and focus on scalability and impact.
  • • Will Smith embodies the power of versatility and fearlessness. Working with him taught me how to balance creativity with relatability.
  • • Tyler Perry reflected the importance of ownership and carving out space in an industry that often marginalizes diverse voices. Our partnership motivated me to remain steadfast in building platforms that prioritize inclusivity.

What advice would you give to aspiring filmmakers aiming for similar success?

Be relentless in pursuing your vision, but stay open to learning and collaboration. Authenticity is your greatest asset — tell the stories only you can tell. Invest in your craft, stay adaptable, and don’t fear rejection; it’s part of the process. Surround yourself with people who challenge and uplift you, and remember that success isn’t just about accolades — it’s about impact.
